Ja havíem
estat als Estats Units altres cops, així que ens vam concentrar per una part, en
alguns parcs nacionals i per un altra amb una part concreta de l'est.
Aquest país
és una terra de moltes cultures. L'equilibri és complicat, però és alhora el
que aporta una riquesa sense fi a tot allò que tenim al davant.

NOVA YORK
Màgica, fascinant i seductora, així és Nova
York. Una ciutat que et captivarà. És una
ciutat que tots tenim la impressió de haver-hi estat per la televisió. Des de
"Central Park" a "Times Square", des de les tendes de
"China Town" a la torxa de l'estàtua de la llibertat. Una ciutat que
viu molt de pressa.
És una
metròpoli on es respiren aires d'arreu del món i s'hi senten llengües d'arreu
del món.
Comencem caminant
des de l'hotel a "Times Square" passant per "Madison Square
Garden" on juguen els Nicks, l'Empire
State Building, la "5ª Avinguda", etc. Llums de colors,
anuncis, soroll, bogeria, presses, limusines i molta, molta gent.
Benvinguts a
Times Square, el centre de New York. També hem passat per Madison Av. fins que
ens hem trobat la "Gran Central Station", si, aquella estació que ha
sortit a tantes i tantes pel·lícules... Doncs està clar que no ens podíem estar
de fotografiar-la.
A mi em recordava la meva estada d'un any a Nova York perquè cada dia arribava
i havia d'agafar el tren per anar a casa a Bronxville on vivia.
Finalment
hem arribat a on s'agafa el ferry a Staten Island que és gratuït i et permet
veure una mica més d'aprop l'estatua de la llibertat i l'skyline de Manhattan,
així que hem anat i tornat a Staten Island, hem reposat una miqueta, hem gaudit d'unes bones vistes i hem fet mils de fotos.
Al tornar
com ja no podíem més hem anat fins a la zona zero on estan construint a tota marxa
i allà ja hem agafat el metro que ens porta a l'hotel.
Harlem és el barri on habita la comunitat afroamericana i el cor de la cultura negra. Les misses "gospel" dels diumenges són tot un espectacle. No us la perdeu, és molt emocionant !!!
Avui anem
cap a Boston amb un autocar que contractem a Chinatown que ens costa molt més
barat.
BOSTON
A Boston
havíem llogat un apartament dúplex que resulta ser magnífic (sóm 6) i té unes
vistes des del menjador (té una paret tota de vidre) realment privilegiada.
Ens quedem tots bocabadats, sobretot quan tornem a casa al vespre i està tot il·luminat.
SALEM
Nosaltres vam agafar un vaixell des de Boston per passar el dia i veure la ciutat de les bruixes. Molta gent associa la ciutat amb el Judici a les bruixes de Salem del 1692 i ho utilitzen com a atracció turística. Fins i tot es pot seguir una ruta turística de les bruixes, seguint unes senyals a terra.
LAS VEGAS
De Boston volem a Las Vegas.
Las Vegas s'ha convertit en una de les
principals destinacions turístiques del país sobretot gràcies als seus casinos.
Passegem
pels Casinos i dediquem una estoneta per molts d'ells.
Creuem les
portes del "Venetian", "Paris", "Mandalay", "Excalibur", "Circus Circus", "Luxor",
"New York", que a banda dels referents típics, té una muntanya russa per dins de
l'hotel, el
"Bellagio", on fan un espectacle de fonts d'aigua gratuït i molt interessant, etc.
Avui deixem l'Strip
que és com un parc d'atraccions on l'espectacle està a cada Casino
individualment, on prima l'edifici i instal·lacions, per anar a Freemon street,
on l'espectacle està al carrer. L'ambient una mica més canalla, ofereix
actuacions musicals en viu, una coberta audiovisual espectacular on posen
imatges i música, gran varietat d'artistes de carrer, i reclams als diferents
casinos perquè els visitis. Tot una mica més barat que a l'Strip i amb un
ambient que enganxa, totalment recomanable per la tarda-nit i els dies que hi
ha actuacions.
A La Vegas
vam llogar un cotxe, pels sis, per viatjar pels parcs.
ZION NATIONAL PARK
La principal
atracció del parc és el Canyó Zion, una esquerda de 24 quilòmetres de longitud
i fins a 800 metres de profunditat excavada pel braç nord del riu Virgin sobre
terrenys de sorra vermella. Altres punts d'interès són el Gran Tron Blanc, les gorgues
del riu Virgin i el Arquejo Kolob.
A l'àrea
dels canons Zion i Kolob es troben nou formacions geològiques amb una edat
datada de 150 milions d'anys, provinents de sedimentacions ocorregudes durant
el Mesozoic.
El riu
Virgin és la principal força erosiona'l que esculpeix el barranc de Zion. Molt
del treball es pogué haver fet durant l'edat del Gel de fa milions d'anys quan
la precipitació era més gran. Durant la primavera i l'estiu les tempestes amb els
trons continuen encara tallant uns barrancs evolutius de formes espectaculars.
BRYCE NATIONAL PARK
Hem passat
per una scenic view (carreteres amb vistes panòramiques espectaculars), que ens
ha portat serpentejant pel Red Canyon fins arribar al Bryce i ens disposem a
visitar-lo. Des del principi ja hem vist que seria espectacular... Aquest
parc ofereix unes formacions rocoses amb colors diferents que han estat
modelades per la pluja. Realment és un parc altament
recomanable. Hem arribat al final dels miradors.
GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK
El Gran
Canyó és una vistosa i escarpada gola excavada pel riu Colorado al nord d'Arizona.
El Canyó és considerat com una de les meravelles naturals del món i està
protegit en la seva major part dins del Parc Nacional del Gran Canyó (un dels
primers parcs naturals dels Estats Units).
El president
Theodore Roosevelt va ser el major promotor de l'àrea del Gran Canyó: el va
visitar en nombroses ocasions per caçar pumes o per gaudir de l'impressionant
paisatge. El canyó el fa formar el riu Colorado, la llera del qual va soscavar
el terreny durant milions d'anys. Té uns 446 km de longitud, compta amb
serralades d'entre 6 i 29 km d'amplària i arriba a profunditats de més de 1.600
m. Estrats de fins a 2.000 milions d'anys d'antiguitat han quedat exposats
mentre el riu Colorado i els seus tributaris erosionaven el sediment capa a
capa alhora que l'altiplà del Colorado s'elevava.
El canyó ja
l'havíem visitat des de la part sud. Aquest cop el volíem visitar des de la
part nord, molt menys visitada, però no menys espectacular. Ens vam allotjar a
l'únic Lodge de la part nord. El Lodge està edificat al mateix extrem i per tan
té unes vistes privilegiades del canyó, sobretot a la posta de sol.
WASHINGTON DC
Dels tres parcs, no sabria si quedar-me amb el Bryce o el Gran Canyó. Tots dos són espectaculars i molt
diferents.
WASHINGTON DC
A Washington vam llogar un cotxe, pels sis, per viatjar fins a Nova York.
En el Down
Town de Washington hi ha grans edificis, grans gratacels que tocaven el cel,
aquí hi ha grans edificis típics de l'imperi, grans construccions, grans palaus
de caire senyorial amb les típiques columnes dòriques típiques dels grans
palaus romans. Tot plegat trenat per un conjunt de grans avingudes que li donen
a aquesta ciutat un caire de grandesa especial. El colofó final el marquen els
grans jardins o perquè no dir-ne el magnífic parc que es pot contemplar, gaudir
i passejar i que és conegut com a National Mall on hi hem pogut visitar les típiques
estampes de Washington, DC: El Capitoli, el Monument a Washington, el Memorial
a Abraham Lincoln.
Segurament és un dels millors espais de la ciutat.
Una altra de les coses interessants de Washington, és que tens una oportunitat única per fer-te una idea de la història i el tarannà d'aquest enorme país visitant els molts museus que hi ha al centre i els quals són tots gratuïts.
Un altre
punt ineludible és la "White House", la Casa Blanca i el Pentàgon.
A Washington
vam dormir en un hostal que ni l'anomenaré. La nostra habitació era terrible,
tot i que les dels nostres amics no eren tan cutres.
GETTYSBURG
Volíem anar
a Gettysburg per visitar el lloc on es va fer la guerra. Tenen tours i és una
cosa molt interessant si t'interessa la història. Es fa una visita pel camp de
batalla i abans s'ha de passar pel museu amb vídeos explicatius, molt
interessant, i el "Visitor Center". Vam quedar molt contens, la
visita va durar entre una cosa i l'altre quasi tot el dia.
Vam dormir a
"A Sentimental journey", un nostàlgic B&B que tota la casa està
decorada amb motius de la guerra.
La Batalla de Gettysburg (1-3 de juliol
de 1863) va ser la batalla que va causar més baixes de tota la Guerra Civil
americana i sovint s'ha descrit com el punt d'inflexió de la guerra. L'Exèrcit
del Potomac, del general George Gordon Meade, de la Unió, va aturar l'atac de
l'Exèrcit de Virginia del Nord, dirigit per Robert Lee, acabant-ne la invasió
del Nord.
El Discurs
de Gettysburg és el més famós dels discursos d'Abraham Lincoln President
dels Estats Units i un dels discursos més citats als Estats Units d'Amèrica.
Fou pronunciat durant la inauguració del Cementiri Nacional de Soldats de
Gettysburg el 19 de novembre de 1863 en plena Guerra Civil dels Estats Units i
quatre mesos i mig després de la Batalla de Gettysburg.
LANCASTER COUNTY
El comtat de Lancaster és el lloc on es concentren més Amish i Mennonites als Estats Units.
Els amish són una agrupació religiosa cristiana d'origen anabaptista, notables per
les seves restriccions quant a l'ús d'algunes tecnologies modernes com ara els cotxes
o l'electricitat. Els amish són un grup cultural i ètnic fortament unit,
descendent d'immigrants predominantment suïsos de llengua alemanya. Creuen
literalment en el Nou Testament, i s'aïllen del món exterior, defensen el pacifisme
i la vida senzilla. Vesteixen com en el segle XVII o XVIII. La majoria parla a
casa en un peculiar dialecte alemany. Els
mennonites són una branca una mica menys estricta.
Nosaltres
vam voler passar un parell de dies a una granja B&B de mennonites per viure
de més a prop l'experiència. Cosa que va ser molt interessant i recomanable.
PHILADELPHIA
Filadèlfia durant
un període curt de temps va ser capital dels Estats Unitats d'Amèrica als
primers anys que prosseguiren la declaració d'independència l'any 1776.
Filadèlfia és la ciutat més gran de l'estat de Pensilvània,
situada entre Nova York i Washington DC. Té una campana de gran importància històrica,
símbol associat a la Guerra de la Independència dels Estats Units i un dels símbols
més grans de l'abolició de la esclavitud. Ha estat utilitzada com icona
internacional de llibertat. Es pot visitar al "Liberty Bell Center"
del "Independence National Historical Park" i és una visita obligada.
Estàvem
allotjats a un B&B molt interessant, semblava un magatzem atiborrat d'antiguitats,
però curiós.
Vam passejar
pel centre de la ciutat i als voltants de l'ajuntament es troben varis edificis
interessants (catedral, plaça JFK, temple Masònic, etc.). També vam anar a visitar
la casa on Edgar Allan Poe va viure durant un any mentre vivia a Filadèlfia,
però després d'una llarga caminada, estava tancada.
Philadelphia, no és molt coneguda, i per la gran majoria queda tan a l'ombra de les grans metròpolis com New York, Boston o Washington, que pràcticament ni es veu. Però tan Philadelphia com Baltimore (només vam estar unes hores), són dues ciutats que s'han de conèixer per entendre d'on prové i per quins estadis ha passat aquest enorme país.

Estem de
vacances, però estem cansats i necessitem una setmana més per recuperar-nos
d'aquest meravellos viatge... Encara ens resta mol per veure !!!

We visit hot
spots throughout California, Arizona, and Nevada on this Golden West Adventure
vacation.
We fly New York to Phoenix and rent a car to travel
around.
Scenic Highlights:
Sedona, Oak Creek Canyon, Grand Canyon National Park,
Historic Route 66, Las Vegas, Sierra Nevada, Yosemite National Park, Golden
Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf, Monterey, 17-Mile Drive, Carmel, Hearst Castle
and coastal Santa Barbara.
The Grand Canyon is a
five-hour drive from Phoenix. Take Interstate 17 north from Phoenix to
Flagstaff. From Flagstaff take Route 180 northwest to the Canyon.
Our first stop is at Montezuma Castle,
a spectacular cliff dwelling built by the Sinagua Indians (not the famous Aztec
leader by that name). The museum, trails, and archaeology of Montezuma Castle
cost $5 for adults.
Next stop is Sedona, a thriving center for New Age arts set in canyon country.
Next, we pass through
the weather-sculptured rock formations of stunning Oak Creek Canyon and up onto
the Mogollon Rim, passing the San Francisco Peaks and arriving at one of the
Natural Wonders of the World—the
Grand Canyon. There is time to stroll the canyon south rim. Overnight
in Flagstaff.
Flagstaff–Las Vegas
Leave the mountain town of Flagstaff on historic Route 66 and cross the old
Mojave gold strike country, which still bears traces of century-old ghost towns
set in natural desert beauty. By late afternoon, reach Las Vegas, a fantastic city of feverish gambling, neon
lights, and glamorous shows. Finish the evening
with a stop at Glitter Gulch for the “Freemont Street Experience” light show.

There’s time to cool off by
the hotel pool before diving head first into the nightlife of the Las Vegas
Strip. The dazzling lights of the incredible hotels and casinos are just the
beginning, and the sheer scale of the attractions will make your jaw drop!
People-watching and free outdoor shows are fun, cheap, and will get you in the
mood for the night ahead.
The night is ours for the
taking, why not take in one of the world famous Las Vegas shows or visit some
of the legendary casinos for a flutter. Just make sure to leave some energy for
the rest of the trip!

We then have a full day to make sure we get the
complete Vegas experience. It’s impossible to run out of things to do there:
take a gondola ride down a faux-Venice canal; marvel at twentieth-century
Pyramids of Giza; climb the city’s own Eiffel Tower; or check out any number of
other recreated world wonders.

Las Vegas–DeathValley- Yosemite
National Park
Things are about to get really hot as we head down
(literally) to Death Valley National Park, the lowest point in North America
and one of the hottest places in the world. There are opportunities for some
short walks to take in the amazing desert landscapes, salt flats and nearby
mountain ranges. Even though this place seems dry and lifeless, you might just
catch a glimpse of a pupfish in the spring or a roadrunner dashing in the
distance.
We leave Death Valley and continue to YOSEMITE
NATIONAL PARK, a wonderland of spectacular lakes, cascading
waterfalls, lush forests, giant granite domes, pinnacles, and mountains soaring
as high as 1,219 meters (4,000 feet) above the valley floor.
Yosemite National Park
Today we visit the gem of
the Sierra Nevada Mountains as we drive over the Tioga Pass and
into Yosemite National Park. Our climb of 914m over Tioga Pass
transports us to a picturesque world of granite peaks, alpine meadows and
lakes, and giant Sequoia trees… and that's before we get into Yosemite Valley
itself!
The highlights in Yosemite include the Tunnel View, Bridal Veil Falls, El Captain, Merced River, Yosemite Falls, and Half Dome.

Yosemite National Park –San Francisco
Today we leave the mountains behind and head to the
delightful 'City by the Bay', San
Francisco. As we walk on the iconic Golden Gate Bridge we enjoy
great views of the gorgeous San Francisco Bay, notorious Alcatraz Island, and
the impressive city skyline.
San Francisco
San Francisco is a dazzling city which is compact
enough to explore on foot, by trolley bus or on the famous cable cars (trams),
which are perhaps the best option for those famously steep streets! There’s so
much to see and do here – take a cable car ride to China Town, explore the
bohemian North Beach neighborhood, see the heart of the city around Union
Square, or visit Alcatraz and act out scenes from the Sean Connery movie The
Rock!
You might also feel like a walk in Golden Gate Park, a 5km long urban park
bordered by Ocean Beach on the west. Here you’ll find the Botanic Gardens,
science and art museums, walking trails and plenty of people-watching
opportunities. No doubts that you’ll succumb to the charms of San Francisco,
one of the coolest cities in North America.
Lombard Street
This evening we wander around Fisherman's Wharf. It is one of the biggest tourist
attractions in the Bay Area. People come to the Wharf to see the famous street
performers. They come to Fisherman’s Wharf to enjoy the many restaurants, cafés
and sidewalk food vendors that line the area. The area also includes piers such
as Pier 39, where travelers gather together to see the sea lions which dock
there, barking out at them and making everyone laugh.

San Francisco–Monterey
We head south through the great state of California
and follow its famous coastline. We spend time in Monterey where we visit
Cannery Row, a historic waterfront district made famous in the novels of the
great American author John Steinbeck. The docks and scenic Monterey Bay are all
part of the attraction. A visit to Fisherman’s Wharf, known for its historic
waterfront, delicious seafood, and unique shopping. We then
continue down the central California Coast via the scenic Highway 1, passing
through Big Sur on our way to San Luis Obispo.
Big Sur is famous for dramatic coastal scenery as the
mountains of the Santa Lucia Range rise straight up from the Pacific Ocean. The
wild surf, dramatic cliffs, coastal fog and knockout views make driving along
this impressive highway one of the quintessential North American road trips,
listen to California band the Red Hot Chilli Peppers' song 'Road Trippin' and
you'll get the idea! San Luis Obispo is a small college town of around 45,000
and thanks to its student population has a relaxed vibe. It's a great place to
mingle with some young Californians.
Monterey––17-Mile Drive– Carmel
Today we take in spectacular 17-Mile Drive. Watch the
waves of the Pacific Ocean en route to Carmel. Situated on Carmel Bay and
nestled in a pine forest, the one-square-mile village of Carmel is incredibly
dynamic, yet still quaint and picturesque. Continue to the "Seal Rock" and then drive to Hearst Castle,

Hearst Castle- Santa Barbara
Hearst Castle is one of California’s top vacation attractions. It is located on
Highway 1 along the majestic Central Coast of California. Nestled in the hills
at San Simeon, the Castle sits halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. It is an impressive and famous mansion. It was built by
the newspaper baron William Randolph Hearst. Marvel at the grand vision of
newspaper magnate with a visit to his palatial estate, one of the world’s
greatest showplaces. Several guided tours of the estate give you an insider’s
view of the 127 acres of gardens, the sumptuous, 60,645-square-foot main house,
or the Neptune pool, which features an ancient Roman temple as its centerpiece.

DISNEYLAND-HOLLYWOOD-UNIVERSAL STUDIOS
An exciting day in the “City of Angels”. explore the many unique and
amazing sights this world famous city has to offer.
Start your visit of Los Angeles in Hollywood
where you'll get a chance to tour Grauman's Chinese Theatre,
the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Hollywood & Highland
Complex. For more than 75 years, Grauman's Chinese Theatre has been
a unique and popular L.A. landmark, and today its courtyard is still the

Today we leave LA and head down the Californian
coast to the incredible city of San Diego. Here we have the opportunity to
enjoy the sun, sand, surf and sights of a southern Californian beach.
We can finish the night with a visit to the Gaslamp Quarter, the historic centre of San Diego with buildings from the Victorian era. The Gaslamp is also the centre of San Diego nightlife, with great dining, events and music to be found here.

We visit the world-famous Sea World, which is home to killer whales, dolphins, polar

Tijuana (Mexico)
With some native friends, we drive to Tijuana for
a short visit of the city and a nice lunch in The Lobster village with "Mariachis",
"Margaritas" and "Tequilas".
And this is
the end of our wonderful trip to the USA.
You will
never get tired of it. There is a lot to see and do there.
